Does this car HONESTLY have 17 miles on it???
Anyone know Northstar Motorsports in Barrington, IL? They have a 993 RSR/LM with an odometer reading 17. I'm not doubting it, I'm sure it's a valid number, just seems amazingly low even for just moving it from the factory to the shop's showroom.
And doesn't it damage cars to sit like that?
Just wondering. J/TSR, any comment on sitting race cars (other than "what a waste")? I'm still worried about my car having been sitting for a few months now
Still astonished by that RSR mileage,
Cameron

It's hard to crash'em when they're just sitting in the garage...
My race cars usually sit from late Oct till late April...letsee....I usually close the door....disconnect the battery....put on an old set of crappy street tires and jack the damn things up so they're not sitting on the springs....put in some fuel stabilizer....hmmmm....that's about it.
It's always better to change the oil BEFORE a long storage, so all the nasty acids/cholesterol/combustion by-products don't eat thru your expensive parts, but I don't always do that, since my oil is usually kinda fresh.
Basically, I don't get too obsessed about race car (or any car) storage....Have a nice winter, I'll see you in the spring.
To wax philosophic: There is something romantic, maybe almost religious, about race cars at rest. I love being at race tracks early in the morning, before people or cars are moving. I get asked to instruct with the Ferrari Club alot (even though I don't have a Ferrari...I really only like Italian motorcycles), and I love wandering thru the garages looking at the quiet hardware that will soon be making lotza noise, and scaring the crap out of the meek. Phil Hill's old F1 car here, a Nurburgring 1000km winner there, a "boring" 365 Boxer, a 512LM Boxer race car....it's like a walk thru the Louvre, but there's usually nobody around and you don't have to deal with irritating Frenchmen chain smoking cigarettes that smell like camel dung. And besides, it's kinda hard to 4 wheel drift an oil painting. Raises hell with the frame, you know...
John
Trained Seals Racing
starting yet another international incident

Mine had 490 miles on it
I couldn't believe it....but when I got to the dealer, the car had 490 miles on it. They said that they were all delivery miles. Most Audi dealers I went to had cars with anywhere from 100-300 miles on them. It seems that most dealers in NJ don't have a demo fleet.
