Default Enkei RPF1 17" vs 18" for the track? ...>

Hi folks...

I have an Audi TT which I run at the track (HPDE events) several times a year. Am I asking for trouble (as in bent rims) if I purchase a set of Enkei RPF1 rims with 225/40/18 tires for track use?

1) Would I be better off with 17 inch rims and 225/45/17 tires in terms of denting/bending resistance or would the difference 17" and 18" be insignificant?

2) Are the Enkei RPF1's reasonable for the track use (HPDE events) several times a year?

I know that dedicated forged wheels for the track would be my best option but as you've probably already guessed I face budget constraints.

Default Others can chime in, but I vote for 17s for a few reasons.

1. Cheaper tires.
2. More tire options.
3. Overall wheel/tire package should be lighter.

You're actually more likely to bend a wheel on the street than on the track. There are no potholes on most tracks!

Default

17s, cheaper tires, less weight, just make sure they fit over your big brakes.

Default depends on what kind of tires you plan on running...

if you run street tires and/or r-comps - 17" for the reasons other have mentioned

if you plan on running true slicks - 18" (tough to find slicks in 17" sizes)

Default Don't worry about 18's. Every Porsche and BMW out there is already running 18 or 19" wheels.

Yeah, tires will be a bit more expensive. But like Bauer said, 18" wheels will allow you to run a 355mm brake kit.

Default I track my TTQC frequently (HPDE/Track Days) with 225/40x18 rims. No issues.

Haven't considered the corner weight an issue for those. Maybe racing I'd go lighter/smaller.
