Default Harnesses on stock seats w/ no rollcage. I did a search, but lots of conflicting info.

My car is a 2001 S4. I'm considering putting a harness in my driver's side seat. I have the stock S4 seats and no rollcage. Is this a good idea? If so, what type of harness is recommended. 4 point, 5 point? Brand recommendations? Thanks.

Default plenty of folks have put a harness on stock seats.

I have, SilverStreakin has.....to name 2.
I have a 98.5 a4 w/ stock seats, and put in a 4 pt Schroth Rallye harness.
I would nowe like to have put in a 6 point, b/c of anti-submarining. the 5 pt would need to have a hole drilled into the floor board to hold the 5th point in place, whereas the 6 point, could use the seats connection points to the vehicle. (I'm not sure how the S4 stock seats connect t the vehicle). But the 4 point is just fine for the racing I'm doing.
Look into either the Schroth Rallye 4 pt. <a href="http://www.soloracer.com/rallye4.html">Schroth 4 pt</a>

or try going with a harness bar that will support a 4 or 6 point harness from Stable Energies
<a href="http://www.stableenergies.com/index.html">Harness bar</a>.
Call these guys to make sure the harness bar will fit in a S4. Don;t know the detailed differences between S4 and A4 interiors.
Hope this helps.

You can do it, doesn't mean it'll be safe.

Default 4pt

id recomment 4 point. so just incase u do go over, u will get pushed under the dash like if u had regular seat belt on instead of trying to hold the car up with your neck.

Default You could also give yourself internal injuries when the belts ride up on you....

In my opinion, unless you are just autocrossing do not do a harness without a roll bar...it is just unsafe.

Default Spence....man you are one busy internet surfer!

man you have you long fingers in a lot of forums!!!!

guess it's one way to get over the winter...

oh on the harness.... go with the Schroth rallye, it's actually street legal and is easy to install (to wheelgap)

Default oh, well i kinda assumed it was for autocross use. the rollover info was just to make a point

harness on track w/o roll over protection is not a good idea.
