Which is more fun street/track; 95 S6 or A4 1.8TQMS Avant?
I have driven a stock A4 1.8TQMS sedan and liked it (but not passionate about it), however I have only ridden in a highly modified 93 S4 (at lame speeds). I did ride around the track in a stock 2.8QMS Avant with Hoosiers (major grins!). I do not plan to AutoX, just driver's schools. I had an UrQ and a modified 5ktq, would the S6 or the A4 be the best replacement for both? The cost looks even.
Thanks,
Todd W

Well, if not for AutoX, . . .
There was a guy from up north by Steve and the gang, that happened to be here in SoCal when our Quattro Club had the TT Coupe unveiling. His S4, similar to the S6, had over 400hp! He even had a Nitro bottle in the trunk. And this was no kid, but an older guy that also races a Porsche 911. According to him, the Porsche handles better, but the S4 had the power. And so if you get the older S4 or S6, there is a lot of goodies you can get for it. But I'd suggest you get on the Quattro Mailing List to ask more about this.

That guys name is Scott....and I was on track with that 400 bhp S4...it is not fast in the corners.
And here is a picture of his Porsche...it doesn't race anymore...it use to be driven by Jeffrey Zwart...up Pikes Peak in the hillclimb...I believe it won its class: super sport.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
P.S. Last time I looked at the odometer of that Porsche...it only had 1,850 miles...yes, you read that right ... :-)

Re: Which is more fun street/track; 95 S6 or A4 1.8TQMS Avant?
a buddy of mine has an S6--and i'm impressed every time i drive it. yes it's heavy--3800 lbs or so--but handles amazingly well for a "big" car. we just put a new set of wheels/tires on it--rest of the car is stock w/60k miles on it. more turbo lag than A4--but once it gets on boost the car really moves. also--chip upgrades for S6 dramatically improve hp and torque--he's looking to go the mtm route. my only complaint with the car is the brakes--rotors are identical to those on my 99.5 A41.8tqms--and i'd be hesitant to spend much track time with the S6 w/out upgrading the brakes. other than that--i'd highly recommend the car--especially if you need more interior room than an A4. trunk is tiny though--so if you plan to haul a bunch of stuff--plan on folding the rear seats.

I called my 200 20V (3650lbs)...
the "fat, sausage eating german"! But, with some suspension upgrades, it got around pretty well on the track passing most and fending off a E36 328is for several laps at Limerock last year. The Avant will certainly be better in the twisties and allow easier transport of your track tires; durability of a highly modified 1.8T motor is still questionable (to me); the 20V motor is absolutely bulletproof.

Folding rear seats????
Are you sure?
I know about the brakes. I also intend to modify the suspension and chip it rather quickly if I get it.
I may end up getting the S6, if only because I need a car quickly. I went from 2 cars to no cars in a few weeks.
Todd W
