Time for another engine rebuild =(
I'm beat. 100 degrees F in the shade and 114 in the sun, but at least I killed the engine and DNF'ed on saturday...
Saturday race: holed radiator, overheated the HELL out of the motor, blew headgasket, scored bearings (one showing a tiny bit of copper...), and took out 2 of the oil squirters on the bottom end, which should be physically impossible.
My engine builder replaced the headgasket and cleaned up the bottom end on saturday night. JB welded the radiator hole, and filled up the motor with molasses thick engine oil. Heard a slight rod knock after qualifying, but after it cooled, it went away. I was also down 60 psi on a compression test :-/
So with a weak motor, on the verge of grenading (literally), I managed to finish on sunday. This motor is done. It's coming out this week for a rebuild.

That's why this is considered to be 'recreation'.
Ain't it fun ? Take all of your discretionary income...and burn it, with gasoline, at a race track near you.
I warned you. You just didn't want to hear the warning. Now you're going to Racer Hell in a bucket...full of kersploded engine whirlygig parts.
Maybe time to invest in one of those coolant system pressure warning lights. When the pressure drops, a light comes on which says "Do you want to stop, or do you want to buy a new motor ?"
Got the '65 Shelby rear axle housing (newly shortened, for wider rear sneakers) back this week. Now I've got to cut and move the inner fender wells to clear all that rubber. Etc. etc. etc.
"A little unleaded high-test with your cash, sir ? And a match, too ?"
