it might not be white-trash food, but it's definitely white-trash chinese food ...
i've spent 5 of my last 14 months in china, and i can tell you categorically that no self-respecting chinese citizen would consider that chinese food.
according to wikipedia, crab rangoon was invented in america in the 1950's.
ps. it's a real shame most americans have never had authentic chinese food, which is quite diverse and completely different from the americanized crap found around here. my favorite sub-cuisines are sichuan, hunan, yunnan, and hubei.

Even a non-self-respecting Chinese citizen would not consider crab rangoon Chinese food
They simply would not recognize what it is.
I remember taking my wife (originally from Taiwan) out before we got married to a 'Chinese food' restaurant here and her first comment was, "I don't know what this is, but I can tell you that it's not Chinese food."
Other than Chinatown, where we both hate going, we found Chilli Garden in Medford to serve real good Sichuan food.
Meem, what brings you to China so regularly?

i have not been there yet though. as mentioned in a post below, i highly recommend sichuan gourmet in billerica.
i've been going to china on business -- i work for sun microsystems, and i'm leading two projects that have a non-trivial amount of the work being done by engineers at our beijing campus.
