Default DIY timing belt 01 A6 4.2

I did some searching without much luck. there's tons about it on some of the other engines but not much on the 4.2. the car only has 43k but it's an 01. I'm thinking at that age if it's a DIY project I'll do it fairly soon but if it's a shop project only I may have to wait till the 60-70k mark. I'm pretty mechanically inclined after building several mustangs and such for the track, but audi is a different beast. If anyone knows of any good 4.2 specific write ups I'd appreciate the link.

An '01 with 43k? Plenty of time to figure that out. I'd do it at 75k.

just didn't know how much effect being 6 or 7 years old would have on it.

Not enough to worry about it. The belt itself isn't usually the point of failure.

Default Buy the Bentley Manual if you are going to tackle any DIY projects...

...I am not aware of any DIY articles on the 4.2 timing belt, but the Bentley will have everything you need to know.

I had hoped to do it myself if the NAAC (North Atlantic Audi Club) held another DIY timing belt day. Last year's event was for 1.8T only, since the guys that planned the event knew about the 1.8T the most. I had asked about the 4.2, but not for 2007, so maybe for 2008. I had planned on taking lots of pictures.

However, my thermostat recently failed, so the timing belt was changed while I had the thermostat replaced under warranty. All labor covered. I was out of pocket only for a few small items.

Default If you really "built" those Mustangs (serious engine work, tuning, etc), you'll be more than fine.

Just buy a Bentley manual as BD said, take your time, and be very careful and methodical to not fvck any little points up.
