Default Hogan Tire in Woburn mangled my wheels...off to Rim Pro?

I went in this morning to have my new Azenis RT-615 tires mounted on 17" rims at Hogan Tire in Woburn, MA. I told them to use the stick-on weights, and to re-use the same valve stems, which screw into the rim.

When I went to pick them up, all four wheels were damaged in multiple places on the inside and outside. Paint has been stripped off on the outside lips, and there's marring of the metal on the insides. This was caused by the machine they use to remove the tire from the rim.

I talked with the manager about it and he was very friendly and helpful, even showing me the machine and how it works. It appears that they mark up every rim that goes onto this machine, since it has metal to wheel contact to hold the wheel in place...WTF? I was told to call the owner on Monday morning.

I'll also be calling Rim Pro for an appointment. Is that the best place to get these wheels repaired and re-finished? How much should Hogan Tire expect to reimburse me for?

Default Honestly, that's fairly common - at least, the insides getting marked up.

Cheaper shops can't afford the expensive dismounters.

Default Happened to me also, and was handled perfectly. Went to RimPro...

There was no reimbursement necessary. Since Hogan deals in wheels and tires, it was no surprise that they have an account at RimPro just for these occasions. I spoke with the owner (Bob, in my case) and even though he wasn't excited to spend money, had no problem sending all damaged wheels to RimPro on their account and at their expense. I was completely removed from the financial aspect of it and just picked up my completed and restored wheels when they called a week later.

Time consuming, but easy and straightforward.

Default Even with less expensive and basic machines, the tech shouldn't leave any marks....

That line about their machine leaving marks on all wheels is a bunch of crap. That just means their tire mounters are too lazy to take their time and be careful. I've dismounted/mounted tires from 15" stock Audi wheels to Porsche 962 rims, with either our our pretty basic machine or by hand (actually, several hands) without leaving marks. On those machines that clamp on the inside, they sell rubber pads that don't leave marks. Those machines also have options that let you clamp the rim from around the outside without leaving a mark.

Yes, accidents can happen, but the line about it happening to every wheel is rather stupid. If they are a tire place, maybe they should invest in better machinery and training.

Default So would I be asking too much when I talk to Ed Hogan Jr tomorrow morning to...

...pay for Rim Pro to fix all my wheels, and for my $140 back? This is a headache, and now I'll need to drive up to Tewksbury twice in the next week or two.

This is a result of 50% operator error, and 50% improper equipment by my research.

Obviously I'll never go back to a Hogan Tire ever again.

Default I'd expect Hogan to fix it...I had the Beverly Hogan scratch all 4 of my rims with one of their

balancing machines.

They paid to have them touched up at no expense to me.... Beverly Hogan > Woburn Hogan anyways, from my experience.

Default I don't know where you're located, but there's a new shop in Peabody. Fastrack Autoservice

They're a bunch of racers (one of which used to manage the Beverly Hogan) and they take great care on things like this.

They also have $$$ wheel equipment, which is less prone to marking wheels, etc.

They do more than just wheels and I've been there a few times this year. I've been happy every time.
