Default Interior footwell/step light annoying plastics

Just received a 4 pack of red 194 LEDs from ebay...

anyone have any experience with their C5 with removing the plastic foot guard that surrounds the whole bottom of the driver's seat to install these? or the semi black metal guard in the front for the driver/wingman seats? I STFA'd but found only that factories might use a tool called a "bone", bascially a long tool that slides behind to apply even pressure to not snap the plastics?

Since its freezing here in new england, didnt want to spend too much time in the cold looking bent over backward on my back trying to look at the ladies' undercarriage with the car door open =/ i also didnt have a flashlight handy...

any assistance apprec. =)

Default What LED's are you trying to replace?

Step one is to wait for warmer temps. The colder it is, the more chance you have of snapping something.

Default I'd almost think of trying to install rear passenger footwell lighting somewhere else...

When you said what it was for I instantly thought of under the rear seat facing the front seats, but pointed down like at a 45 deg. angle. I know the rear seat bottom should be really easy to remove, and the only downside I really see is that their legs get in teh way if they are already seated. Are you planning to have these on anytime the lights are on (or all teh time ambient led style?) or more like when the door is open? I am a bit of an LED crazed man, but I guess a lazy one.

I also want to do at least front footwell ambient LEDs and I have plans on making all brake lights LEDs.

I have made a prototype LED 3rd brake light to replace the A4's that has 4 annoying little bulbs up there. With fitment issues, I am actually now looking into a Jetta 3rd brake light as a replacement instead, but the thing below works fine and is REALLY bright!)

The only LED project I actually finished for my car are the ambient LEDs for the rear passengers (something I guess the A6 and A8 already have) mounted by the map lights. On anytime the headlights are switched on (they are wired into the leds lighting up the map light buttons.)

Default Eureka! the lights in front pop out with a simple screwdriver starting on the left of the

clear cover protecting the light...

As to the 194 LED's...the ones i ordered apparently did not fit as well as the stock bulb..which is very fragile..btw(i shattered the passenger side one in my hands) I'm going to ghetto-jerry rig this with aluminum foil since its a simple complete circuit setup and for the bulb to stay in there, not being long enough to fit properly in the bulb holster.

I wouldnt want these bulbs to stay on as ambient lighting, because at night its nice to drive in the dark sometimes, agree? Its kinda like the same idea as your passenger reading a book next to you with the overhead lamp on which causes a distraction for you as glare etc etc. so i want these lights to only turn on when the door is open (like it is already) as to the driver's side on the C5, it does not use a 194 bulb, but a 39mm FESTOON bulb...which i definitely burnt my finger on..yes..but i have that temporarily swapped out with a 9LED superwhite until the red bulbs arrive. I like your idea of the circuit board and the rows of LED's but i don't need the reflection from THAT many LED's from my newly shined/buffed/polished bostonians while i'm driving ;-) as to the back seat, i have the power rear-sunshade installed and manual sunshades on the back windows so my passengers like it to be as dark as the batcave when we return from long nights at foxwoods. so no rear overhead ambients for me...*wink*

but i can easily see the job wired into the 12V and a simple dremel and filing job to make the 2 holes in the ceiling panel
