Default Probably moving to Boston, suggestions for good cars to have and places to live?

I got a job offer and will most likely be located in Boston. My friend who I will be living with goes to school now in the boston area and suggested to live in Allston or Brighton area and taking the T to work. Parking for the places I am looking at are either regular resident parking or street parking (one or two spaces given per apt), no garages/driveways. While I will not require a car much for work I still will have a car so I need to figure out what to get.

what would you reccomend? I'd prefer stick, newer w/ warranty, 4 door, (midsized- i.e. no jetta/gti/civic) I was thinking Jeep Liberty or even honda accord but not sure. I was told that the areas are safe and there are plenty of audi's there but I still don't think i'd be comfortable bringing my a4 into boston.

Also does anyone have any suggestions for good realtors in boston, I have been looking through http://www.craigslist.org/ and have found a few that I will look at next weekend but my friend and I are still looking for more suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Default hmmm.....

Get a car that you want... that will be able to take the wear and tear of street parking in a busy city. As long as you're fine with it getting a nick here on the bumper, a little scrape there on the bumper... (I'm not saying it happens everyday... but eventually, it'll happen) then get anything you want

I'm sorta being vague because you mention a Jeep Liberty and a Honda Accord... and you want a stick and a warranty and 4 doors. We could list SO many cars that fit those requirements between a Jeep and Honda... it will just come down to a car that you won't mind being a daily driver, and one that you park on the street that gets a little 'love' once in a while from the cars around it.

An audi is perfectly safe in boston... unless you have xenons...which it looks like you don't from your signature... so you should be fine.

As for places to live, Allston Brighton is a cool area... but you should also be looking in Cambridge and Somerville. AWESOME place to live and it's just across the river from Allston and Brighton. And you'd be on the Red Line (T) which is much better than the Green Line (which is the T line you'd be taking if you lived in Allston or Brighton). Must faster and more reliable. In Somerville and Cambridge you have the bars and restaurants and stores in Davis Sq., Porter Sq., Harvard Sq, and Central Sq..

By the way, I live in Porter Square in Cambridge.

Housing wise, Allston and Brighton have a LOT of apartment buildings/complexes where as Somerville and Cambridge are comprised of mostly 2 and 3 family house apartments. Both have different feels to them... I chose a 2 family house apartment because it has a warm neighborhoody-type feel to it. It all depends on which type you'd rather live in. Both sides of the river have cool restaurants, bars and stores.

If you decide to look at apartments in Somerville and Cambridge I'm actually a real estate agent with www.apartmentrentalexperts.com. We have the largest database of listings for the two cities. (and just so you know I'm not feeding you BS, I chose this particular realtor to work with BECAUSE of their database of listings. It gives me the biggest potential for earnings, and will inevitably give you the best selection). We also have many apartments that aren't on Craigslist.

Let me know if you're interested in looking at Cambridge and Somerville and I'll give you my info.

Otherwise, hope this helps and good luck!

Default 2nd that - as a contractor I work all over the area. Sville and Cambridge beat Allston/Brighton...

hands down. Harvard Square/Davis Sq. much more character, better neighborhoods.

Default I completely agree with everything Asain wrote...

but if you do choose to look in Allston/ Brighton, I own and manage two RE offices and would gladly set you up with a solid broker...shoot me an email if you have any questions.

Default awesome thank you for the excellent info, I will talk with my friend I plan to live with

If he's cool with looking into cambrige/sommerville I will absolutely be in touch.

You are correct, non-xenon but I am **** about the car even though it does have a few scratches/dings so I will probably find something to toy around with for a bit (save money by doing so as well) and not worry about it getting love taps in the street : )

Thanks again, and I'll let you know where we decide to persue

Default I can't believe there is somone else up at this hour!

I've actually been up looking through listings on the site you sent me and forwarding the links to my friend. There are definatly a few that cought my eye so we'll see what my buddy says.

I was looking through other posts, are you going to the meet tomorrow in wallingford CT? if so I live about 15 min from there so I'll probably show up around noon (since its 2:30am now). do you have the 19's on still? If in fact you are going I'd love to see those in person, this is my car so if you see it before I see you say hello <img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/56546/dsc04189.jpg">
