Default There are a bunch of decent restaurants in Palo Alto.

At the higher end, I like both Bistro Elan and La Bodequita de Medio on California and Tamarine, Spago, and Lavanda on/near University (I'm sure I'm leaving off a couple of favorites). In the mid-range, I like Palo Alto Sol and Joanie's on California and MacArthur Park on/near University. For burgers, Kirk's at Town and Country is probably my favorite in the area, although I like Clark's and The Counter. Other places that people like include Evvia and Sun Dance.

The best high-end restaurant in the immediate area is Marche in Menlo Park. And, Left Bank in Menlo Park is always decent if you just want a steak and fries.

As for Napa County, any of the Yountville restaurants will do you well. Bistro Jeanty, Bouchon, the FL, etc. are all outstanding. As far as wine tasting goes (and a decent road to drive up) you should call Pride Mountain Vineyards for an appointment (tell them that a friend served you a bottle and that you wanted to learn more about it). It is a fairly amazing place at the top of Spring Mountain. Your friend will be impressed.

With respect to Monterey, I would go to Passion Fish (in Pacific Grove between Monterey and Carmel) for dinner. Outstanding food, outstanding wine, outstanding value. Seventeen Mile Drive at Pebble Beach can also be good. (Although, if you want a really good drive, you should go to Carmel Valley - perhaps eat at Marinus at the Bernardus Lodge - just be sure to drive Carmel Valley Road (County G16 I believe) on the way over. Also, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is outstanding.

I hope this helps. Have fun,

Andrew
