Default I sure hope so. I've heard they're stricter in CA than here in WA, but I'm hoping being out...

of state they won't notice/care.

Default It's a combination of luck and a couple of things ... 4yrs- 1 fixit tix<--sfo meter maid!

Well, from my experience, you can survive if take note of some conditions.

Don't park on the street in downtown SF, Palo Alto or San Mateo. When you are there, just use the parking garages or somewhere designated for grouped parking areas.

I have never taken off my temporary license sticker from the dealer (the thing they stick to your windshield on the lower right) since the day I got my A4. My car always look clean, so it looks like I recently purchased the vehicle. Maybe that prevents cops from randomly stopping me.

Yes, I had been lucky. There were at least 3-4 incidences around San Jose where I had been observed by a passing cop car. First, they cruise up behind you, then they come up the passenger's side, next, they go in front of you, looks in the rear mirror looking for something, and then shoots off. BTW, my car looks STOCK as bone. BUT, I do have front & rear tints, 40%/30%. I bought it used, and it came like that.

I try to glance stealthly, but NEVER turn my head to look at cops when they drive up my side.

Wouldn't I be exempt from smog, as a non-resident?

Default I'd rather drive with 1 WA plate in CA than 1 CA plate in WA!

Seems like they don't like us Californians much up in that part of the world.

Default I did it for nearly 3 years

I did, however, receive 4 tickets for not having registered the car ( I had a CA license, PA plates).

Last ticket I had to beg the officer not to impound my car, he said he made a note to future officers to impound the car no matter what.

I'm now registered in California, but I'm not putting on the front plate.

Default I had WA plates here for about 4-5 years, but I also had my WA license

And I also drove a 4runner, which got me into a lot less trouble than my B5 S4

they shouldn't. I drove a WA state car here for several months w/o front plates.
