Driver hits tree after alleged 100 mph ride
NEW PALTZ -- A 19-year-old New Paltz man suffered minor injuries Tuesday when he crashed his car after allegedly driving more than 100 mph through the town, the Ulster County Sheriff's Office said.
A sheriff's deputy observed the man driving a 1998 Audi in excess of 100 mph on Route 299 in the area of Libertyville Road, police said. As the deputy began to check side roads for the car, an accident was reported on Gatehouse Road off Route 299, just west of where the deputy saw the car. Police said the man failed to make a turn in the road due to excessive speed and struck a tree.
The man was transported to Saint Francis Hospital with minor complaints of pain. He was issued several traffic tickets.
