Is it true that in NJ, you can plea guilty to unsafe operation of a vehicle charge 3 times in 5 yrs
I was speaking to a co-worker who seems like he gets tickets all the time and he said since this is my first ticket in like 6 or 7 years... i can plea not guilty to my 90 in a 65 ticket but plea guilty to unsafe operation of a vehicle..
this is a no point offense but a hefty 500 buck charge.
You can do this up to 3 times in 5 years...
what do you all think? do i really need to get a lawyer, or can i get away with talking to the prosecuter myself...
i have a clean driving record right now 0 points...

also...
I've gone to court without a lawyer for a 4pt ticket and had it reduced to 0, I've also gone with a lawyer to a 4pt and got reduced to 2...I think it all depends on the prosecutor or cop, depending on who is there.
2 to 0 is usually the case, in my experience, seatbelt violation or something of the like. But 4pt tickets are tough to get a non-moving no point. I've only done it twice...both without lawyers.

Agreed. Almost no chance to get it down to 0pts. 2pts 1-14mph. No lawyer.
But you won't have to pay the $250 additional charge the state has added to the 0pt unsafe driving reduced plea. Just don't get another ticket for 1yr and you'll be back down to 0pts. They remove 3pts a year if no tickets.

got a ticket in mahwah about a year ago, 80 in 55...got it reduced to 0 points and a non
moving violation. fine was 300, but much better then having the points. i brought a friends dad who was another bergen county prosecutor, im sure that helped. if you know any cops or proseuters try to get them to tag along with you to court. it helps
