Default Neighborhoods in Seattle

Anyone recommend a good downtown neighborhood to live in. I'm sort of looking for something modern and in downtown studio or 1 Bdrm in the 1000-1400 range.

I kind of want to start looking if anything opens up

Default Belltown would probably be what you are looking for

as that is right downtown and has a lot of newer/modern buildings. Rents have gone up a decent amount lately though, so 1k-1400 will likely only get your a studio in Belltown.

As some of the others have recommended, I'd check out Lower Queen Anne as well as the South Lake Union area. LQA is still within walking distance of downtown and the rents are a little lower than Belltown (LQA is the neighborhood to the immediate north of Belltown and is right by the Space Needle).

South Lake Union has seen a bunch of new construction lately, so you'd be able to get a more modern place at a little lower price than some other areas "downtown." You can still walk to most of the city from South Lake Union.

Check out SeattleRentals.com and Craigslist...

Default Kirkland. You dont want to be in Seattle. Belltown has shootings every other week.

It'll be nice reverse traffic for you if things go as planned.

Default Don't live on the Eastside (Kirkland) esp if you're coming from NYC

Way too big of a transition. Roads are nicer, everything is newer --> suburbia. Very little "culture". This is coming from a guy who grew up in Redmond/Bellevue/Kirkland.

If I were to venture out, I'd probably look to strike a deal in Queen Anne, Cap Hill. I'd avoid Belltown. Just had some bad experiences there (vandalism, gun shots, drunkards).

I would buy on Mercer Island.

Default Queen Anned, Capital hill, Fremont

Belltown is mostly meatheads and idiots that like to shoot guns at each other and have brawls.
