1.8t Engine Fault Codes

16684 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected 35-10 ---Intermittend

16685 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected 35-10 --- Intermittent

Car is out of warranty. Any idea what I may be looking for ? Spark plugs ? Bad gas ?

Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

30k on the car.

Either bad gas..spark plugs or you ran out of gas or near it?

Also, carbon buildup is possible. Try a high quality fuel system cleaner.

not bad gas, same thing happened to me...more

i had a random misfire occur on four separate occasions. i think this is a problem that is basically isolated to 99 and 99.5 cars with NGK plugs. my recommendation would be to go get some better plugs, like Beru Ultra-X or Bosch F7LTCR's. good luck.

Is there a SPARK PLUG replacement FAQ. *MORE*

How difficult is it to replace the plugs on the 1.8t motor. Where are they located ? I've done plugs on several other cars. Where is a good source online for the Bosch F7LTCR's ?

They are easy to replace....

Pull the engine cover off, then you will see four coil packs, one for each cylinder. Each one is held in with two allen head bolts (5mm or 6mm, can't remember) Pull the coilpack straight out, the spark plug wire will come with it. Then you have access to the plug.

I got my plugs from the dealer, but you can probably get them cheaper elsewhere (clairparts?)
