Default 5 Whole Days?

Should replacing a Cam Position Sensor on my 99 A6 2.8Q take 5 days? That is how long my car has been in the shop for this problem (since Monday) and I still don't have the car back. Dealer is telling me that it is a major job to replace the gasket around the Cam Position Sensor. Is the dealer blowing smoke up my A**, or what?

Default Re: What were the symptoms?

Car smoked after warming up from the right side of the engine...the dealer mis-diagnosed the problem as a leaky valve cover gasket and replaced it..but that didn't fix the problem and I brought it back and they replaced the valve cover gasked again! Claiming that the first gasket may not have 'seated' properly. I drove it home and had the same problem, so brough it back this past Monday. The dealer told me that they put dye in the oil and used a blacklight to find the leak..and that it was coming from a seal near the valve cover, and that it would have to be replaced, but the part wouldn't be in until the next day. The next day they called and told me that they need to replace the gasket around the Cam Position Sensor, but again the part wouldn't be in until the next day. Yesterday they told me that it is taking a long time to replace the Cam Position seal because you practically have to take the engine apart and that they are doing the best they can. I advised them that i have been without my car for 7 days for the same problem and that I am not happy!!!

Default sometimes the service writer will diagnose the symptom not the actual problem

and when the tech gets in there he has more to fix
than was written up

replacing a gasket should not take 5 days
they must be understaffed
