Default Is this bad????

I am use tp driving a stick so when I now drive my Auto I cant resist using the 2 nd ,3rd and drive like its tip. I was wondering If this is bad for the transmission. I thaught that it must be there for a reason and the only one I could think of is to make the driver control the car in a more "sport-like" way. I know there isnt anything sporty about a auto tranny but...damn it. "It must be there for a reason."

If it is bad why is it able to do that??
thanx

I don't know if it is bad or not, but they are there for hill climbing, towing, etc...

Also, in the manual of an auto car I owned it said you could use it for engine braking.

Engine makes you go. Brakes make you stop.

Which is cheaper--brake pads or engine parts?

Default ?

I don't know that engine braking is bad for an engine, especially if it is mentioned in the manual. As long as you don't do something rediculous, I think you'll be okay. Besides, if you live somewhere like Colorado, where it is very hilly, then it is very common to use the motor to slow a car down. This keeps your brakes from getting really hot.
