Default Brake problem at the track - any ideas?

I just did the Hooked On Driving event at Watkins Glen. Fantastic event with 3 hours of track time each day. However, I ran into a real problem with the brakes overheating. I have stock calipers, with frozen rotors (slotted) and Carbotech XP10s. After a few sessions the brakes started to feel 'odd' and I was shedding a lot of brake dust. Wasn't happy with it so took the brakes apart and the back plate on the XP10 had bent forcing one end of the pad to do all of the work. Needless to say burnt right through them. The combined wisdom at the track was that the heat had caused the back plate to deform under pressure and the rest was an ugly mess.

So a couple of questions. See this before? Has anyone tried to create a vent into the wheel well to give air to the brakes?

I have another event in two weeks and a bit concerned there is something wrong that will re-occur. I'm going to contact Carbotech on Monday and find out if it was a 'bad batch'. Other than the bad batch or venting options any other ideas out there?

I'll post this on the performance and tuning forum as well.

Default That's different. Was the left and right side doing the same thing?

It looks as if the edges of the brake pad is stuck on the caliper. Although, you should have felt the car pull to a corner when you first started braking if that was the case.

Default I had pretty much the exact same thing happened to my B6A4 1.8TQ...

Went thru iteration of pads: stock -&gt; EBC Red -&gt; EBC Yellow -&gt; Carbotech XP12... and my CarboTech pads did exact same thing as yours.

My synopsis was that the front brakes of the B6A4 is 'under designed'. I noticed that B7A4's (sport pkg only?) came with the B6<b>S4</b>'s brakes.

My orig plan was to come up w/ a brake cooling duct, as continuing to upgrade to more aggressive pads =&gt; generating more heat... which goes back to it's own never-ending-cycle. However, there's little room in the B6s for brake duct routing. I even tried removing the dust shield (and protecting the ABS sensor w/ a small metal shield)... but that didn't solve the over heat problem.

My final solution? I stopped tracking my Audi and bought an old beat'd up 1st gen Miata as my track toy. Now at the end of VIR's back straight, I can start my braking PAST the "0" turn-in marker... something that made a PCA ex-chief instructor envious wishing his 911 could do the same repeatedly w/o worries. P (of course, the stock Miata can only reach ~110 mph there before having to slow down for the corner)

Your alternate solution might be to upgrad to a bigger front brake (caliper, pads, and rotor)... tho that will throw your vehicle's overall brake bias towards the front. A common larger bolt-in pcs is the B5S4 front brakes, more commonly referred to as "HP2"s (don't ask me why the name, I dunno). Email me if you would like more info on an available HP2. Or spend like $2k? for a BBK (Bigger Brake Kit).
