Default Calculating shift points w/VAG-COM

Anybody else see this?

I'm going to try it this weekend.

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=159186

Default IMHO passing the premium points...........

Turbo spooling and Torque are on their way out into 6000rpm thru redline.

me:
1-2 6000
2-3 6000+/-
3-4 5800
4-5 5800
5 @ 5800+rpm = hauling *** 8-)

allowing the taller higher gears get me rolling a beat or two sooner.

of course yours and others' opinions may differ.

Default that doesnt look like a good idea to me if it's a 1.8T....

you should shift at the point where your shift will drop back to maximum torque, which I'm pretty sure in a 1.8T is around 4200 RPM (sorry if i'm incorrect but it feels like it to me). Shifts for max torque should go something like:

1st 6000rpm
2nd 5700rpm
3rd 5200rpm
etc

Sorry I don't have this exact, it's more a "fly by the seat of your pants" for me. And I do not have figures up through 4th gear since that's when I *JUST* feel it and only look at the speedo - LOL!

Default but what if you're making more torque (at the wheels)` in a lower gear? Should you still shift?

NO. A lower gear has a higher torque multiplier. There is a 35% loss in torque on a 2-3 shift from the gears alone.
You want the maximimum torque at the wheels whenever possible, so you need to plot out the torque curve in each gear, and your shift point will be where the torque lines cross (if they do, otherwise, redline is the best shift point) You can figure torque by using acceleration, so an acceleration chart in each gear is just as good a torque chart.

Butt dynos are often wrong.

Default No guesswork - just measurement of acceleration.

There are several factors that confuse shiftpoint calculations (torque curves, gear ratios, drag increasing exponentially with speed, etc). This method removes all that seat-of-the-pants guesswork. Give it a try and email me if you have problems.
