Can the chip for a ko3 setup be modified for use with ko4s? . . . .
or would I need an entirely new chip? I am considering a chip for my early model 2000 A6 2.7t six-speed with 45k miles and the original ko3s, but I have read that these turbos could give up fairly quickly with a high boost chip. If they fail and I upgrade to ko4s, I presume I will need an upgraded chip as well. Can the chip for the ko3s be upgraded inexpensively, or do I need to factor in another $1k plus in for another new chip if the ko3s give up the ghost? Thanks. (Cross-posted to the 2.7t and C5 forums)

you can use your K03 chip if you go with larger turbos down the road
you'll just need to do some tweaks to get it to run right. Maybe the mbc in parallel to control boost spikes.

it works on my boss's 01 S4 with RSK04s.
an employee at APR is/was running the same setup. my boss got his hands on some real RSK04s, big side mount intercoolers, and the piping necessary to put everything together. he has no fueling or exhaust mods. the ecu he is running is the APR "flipswitch" designed to run on a completely stock car. when i called APR to ask about upgrading the ecu/chip to work with the new turbos the sales manager said it wouldn't happen. they wanted around $2000 for just the programming! the guy i was talking to (not the sales manager) was very cool and apologized for the lack of flexibility on the sales manager's part. he said that he runs the same turbos on his car with no issues. the car drives just like it did as a chipped stock car but with a bit more power.

this works on AEB 1.8t. i bought my car with Neu K04 kit and --->
the PO never got around to sending the ecu in for the new software. i picked the car up in staten island and drove it 850+ miles home to michigan this way. i put about 1000 more miles on it before getting the ecu out to neuspeed for the upgrade to real K04 software. if i had known better at the time i might have spent the extra 300 bucks to get GIAC software instead. either way, the car drove great on stock K03 programming but the K04 programming unleashed a lot more power (relatively speaking that is).
