Default ECS Tuning Race head gasket?

I was lookin at the site of Ecs and saw a head gasket that reduces the compression to 8.5:1 from stock 9.5:1. Have any of u guys heard of this, if its any good cause i was prolly thinking of getting it. Or should i just change the compression through the pistons and boring?

Default Compression ratio is

The ratio of compressed volume to uncompressed volume.

You can do a rough calculation knowing the volume of your engine(X.XL), and knowing your stock ratio, calculate the compressed volume. Taking the new ratio, you'll have to fudge here, but kinda figure out what the new volumes would come out to be, then using a little trig. figure out what the thickness of the head gasket would be.

A thicker head gasket would be the least preferable way to lower CR, and the effect would be probably pretty small doing the math. You'd be better off going with a crank/piston swap. A thicker gasket is just begging to be blown, and to leak.

I have a thicker one on mine, but that is to compensate for the head being shaved and rolled. Even at that, it is only 80/1000", copper with/rings, and it still is prone to being blown.

BUT! Why do you want to lower it anyways?

Default

isnt it the lower the compression the less it is to detonate wit more boost?

Default Lower compression with the same boost. Remember that boost

just adds more air volume causing the CR to go up. If you lower the CR you will need to run more boost to make it up but you will be able to run more adv timing. If you take a 9.5:1 at 20psi vs a 8.5:1 at 20psi the 9.5:1 is going to make more hp over all unless you really turn up the adv timing which will help tq. But changing to a thicker gasket might blow easier since that is adding more gap between the head/block, not exactly the way to go if you plan on running even more boost.

Default It is 2mm thick made out of steel and I have run 30psi without blowing it, but

it will screw up the quench zones around your pistons laeding to a serious melt down!! Even with 110 octane I melted the ends right off the sparkplugs...the rest of the engine ... history.
I'm planning on raising the compression to at 10.5 to 1 or at least a flat top on the next rebuild.
