Default ECU tuning @ home

ok, so its possible to now upload new firmware to our ECUs.
Does it work on nDBW ECUs or is it for 2000+ models only?
Why doesn't someone make software that can reprogram the ECU to your exact specs right off your own laptop, (fuel trim, redline, timing, boost regulation...) instead of relying on pre-made stuff or going to a tuner (PES, Giac, APR...).
Guys on Honda have the HonDATA which does just that.
And in our case were lucky enough to have ECUs that don't even need new ROMs.
Please don't talk about REVO, its just minor adjustments, not a complete package.

Default not that I know of. APR has this new "direct programming"...

but that just uploads their recipe of program. I wish that somebody would make an interface to be able to tune through the ECU at home. Kind of like "DSM link" for 2G DSMs. But this would mean Audi people would have to learn how to tune and not buy "out of the box" stuff, or not feel superior about having to pay up the butt for somebody like Garret/APR to do the tuning for them.

*GASP*..what a revelation!

Default I wish. About the only way you'll be able to program at home....

is if you hack the chip yourself, and find all the maps, parameters, etc

It's doable, very very time consuming, but doable.

Default What you talk about it not something that hasn't be wanted for quite a while...

and the fact is, there could be something like that in the works that utilizes the stock system and enables end user control..

Default what about using OE programing as base maps?

might make tuning easier.

Default Once I find another ECU, I plan on trying it....

totally stock ECU using a MAF translator to account for the different MAF and injectors.

I don't think it could run worse than it already is

Default Re: ECU tuning @ home

But imagine the possibilities.

No more standalone
No more fidling with car's wiring
Being able to bypass useless sensors (post-cat O2, 2ndary air pump, leak detection pump....)
Still running Vag-Com software.
and
equally easy time tuning as you can change settings in minutes if not seconds after every dyno run just as on standalone.
