Default Fault Codes.. help with a cure please

We modded a 1.8T engine T3/T4E, Pistons, Rods, fuel injectors etc. Since day one of the rebuild it is very tough to cold start.

It will caugh and catch.. give it gas it stalls then on restart..it cranks like the there is no compression..no cough.. just the motor turning by the starter. Let it sit for a minute and you can get a cough and eventually it will start..Let it warm 10 minutes and its good to go. During shifts we get backfires at times.

We had the syptoms with the original software in it and we have the same symptoms with REVO Big Turbo..the BT upload smoothed the backfires a bit..but not completely. So it's not software..

The vag codes are as follows:

17608-N246 Malfunction
16684 Multi Cylinder Missfires

16686 Cyl 2
16688 cyl 4
16685 cyl 1
16687 cyl 3

One of the 02 sensors has a broken wire so its throwing a code... 17524, but this we don't beleive it to be the source of the problem.

Does anyone have any idea of where to look? Our mod shop is stumpped..(Quattromotion) but willing to continue to dig.

With the engine rebuild...out of the car totally appart. I am thinking some kind of timing sensor.. or perhaps the cam to cam timing was 1 tooth off when reassembled? I don't know..I'm guessing..

Thanks,
Paul

what is the n246? if it is malfunctioning that could be the source of the problems.
