I'm losing my mind
Trying to decide what chip to put in my 01 1.8T Q and hoped someone in the Performance forum could help.
From reading all I can, people are saying go with APR or GIAC for max performance, others say "no" these chips will give you reliability/detonation problems go with MTM or Wett for hassle free steady performanace. European Car praises the performance characteristaics of the Neuspeed chip above all. I'm losing my mind!

You'll be happy with any of them...
I had a TAP chip in mine for over 30K miles with no problems. I then switched to GIAC for slightly more power (got a good deal)
If you do have a problem, AWE (who sell GIAC chips) and APR have great customer service, so if a problem does arise, they should be able to take care of it. It may be harder to get service from MTM/Hoppen/Wett since they are european based.
If you are worried about dealership hassles, make sure you get a spare ECU.

my thoery about chipping and who to go with.....
GIAC & APR are the Audiworld darlings.
I went GIAC a year ago, because there is an installer (Chip while I wait) a half hour away.
No Down time!
Local support, if ever needed!
So, I went GIAC. Very satisfied.
But, I also have APR Stage III right behind me here in my office...install a couple of weeks away!?
Why APR?? a local installer 45 mins away!
Otherwise, I'd not changed!
Hope this helps.
Audi on!

Re: i was in the same boat as you.....but finally went with giac....one word amazing..(more)
i went to a audi gathering on sunday and there were alot of s4's there. I was keeping up with the stock s4's on the road cruise we went on. I road in a greedspeed vbl chipped car. There is no comparison my car pulls way harder. I havent heard any pinging or detonation. I dont think you will have these problems either as long as you run top grade gas. People have problems with the chips cause they dont follow what the chip manufacturers say there chips require. If you live in nj or vicinity let me know and you can ride in my a4.....

Re: I'm losing my mind
I say go with whoever is in driving distance.
When I was asking this stuff a little while back, everyone loved APR and GIAC and slammed neuspeed, but i went with NS because I could drive there for the install (I know it sounds lame) and had a couple local recommends...I love the chip. It producers great power and is really smooth. Plus, they reprogram the existing chip in your ECU, so there's no soldered-on hardware that gives you away ; )
