Lookin' at a good deal on a new '01 Mustang GT covertible...help!
Any opinions here?
Always loved that car, but hard to sit in any American interior after driving the A4...
Here's how I see it:
Advantages: 260 stock HP & a loota tq with no mods or lag, that great V8 sound, a funcar to drive, esp convertible, no interest for 60 mos.
Cons: American finishing work, loses value faster than Audi, overall quality.
Anyone?

Here is my motivation not to get one...
I can beat slightly modded ones all over the place with just an APR stage 2
Isn't altitude a wonderful thing?

Hmmm my $0.02
Ugly.
Rear wheel drive.
Nose heavy.
Ford.
Obviously not the same as the '01, but I had an '84 GT Conv 5.0l some years ago and it was the worst car I've ever owned! Worst handling/balance of anything I've driven. Might as well have parked it in the winter. Horrible reliability. Replaced it with a 1.8l Jetta that was an absolute blast to drive! Fast in a straight line gets old really fast IMO.

yeah, but i gotta tell ya...
i test drove it and was really impressed with the handling. plus, if you wanted extra, you could improve the suspension just like you can with an a4, no? i drove it pretty hard and it cornered really well. not light like the a4, but still...
i don't have snow here in socal, so not an issue...

Good car, but I prefer GM....
I think the Camaro / Trans Am is a much better car. Less tight handling, but many fixes for that. Acceleration wise, f-bodies will whoop up some Ford *** easily. 12's are possible stock, or with 1 mod.
But if you're gonna get a pony, think what you want from it. Drag racing? Don't get a 'vert. You'll need a roll cage once you break into the 13's. Cruising? Drop top pony works. Handling? Again, 'vert loses a lot of integrity, and Cobra would be a tad better with the IRS. But you can find used IRS units for cheap as many Cobra owners switch those out for solid axles to drag race.
