Need help with new brake pads?
I just installed new brake pads on the rear of my 99 Quattro and I took it for a test drive to work in the new pads. Anyway, when I got home my rotors were bright red and they were smoking. Is this normal? Did I do anything wrong? Please advise ASAP?

Definitely not normal ...
.
It sounds like the handbrake is engaged for some reason.
Did you push (actually rotate and push) the piston fully back into the caliper before installing the new pads? Are these stock Audi pads?

Re: Definitely not normal ...
These are stock pads and the handbrake is definately not engaged. I think I just drove it to hard and I need to brake them in a little more. Mabey I didn't make the piston loose enough. My discs are fine though. Thanks for your input. Really appreciate it.

Re: yikes i hope you didnt use the handbrake when you parked else the rotors would warp
By the way, are you from PC, UT? I am. Nice picture of PC resort. Thanks for the input.

Hope that's it ...

If the rotors were red, the pads and rotors are definitely sufficiently bedded in, and you can return to "normal" braking.
I assume you saw the simple test Warren **** posted in the Motorsport forum ... Jack up the car, put transmission in neutral, and if wheel spins freely by hand, you should have no problem.
Good luck,
