questions about FMICs and fit
what are the core dimentions of the units on the market?
EVO
Racetek
APR
SPP (side flow)
What core thickness can I fit behind and S4 bumper. I'm exploring a custom FMIC just for kicks. The core choices are 2.25" which seems small and would force me to have a rather large front area, and 3" which seems like it might not fit.

John uses a 3" thick core on his car with the S4 bumper.
It is not tall so it should fit within the S4 bumper space where the grills are. Just dont go over board when it comes to the size of the fmic, other wise you will be adding too much volume and will start to add boost lag and pressure drop.
Lets just put it this way, a fmic that was too big was installed on a non dbw stage 3 and the car ended up with a huge boost drop in 1st gear, so bad that it almost showed no boost at all.

talking to Bell, I told them my turbo is
putting out about 410 cfm...(as far as I know that is correct) so we are talking about cores in that range and higher. There might be a slightly bigger turbo in my car at some point, so I want the core to be good for more than what I have. So bell said around 500 to 550 cfm. I doubt I'll have the $$$ to do this this year. Just getting idea for next year and seeing if it's cost effective, or better to get one from a tuner.

I think the core I went with is good for up to
700 cfm. I think that is why it was killing the power of my K04. But then I did not expect to run that long with the K04 in the car, just took a little longer then I expected to get the new turbo.

3" will fit behind lower part of S4 bumper.

This one was purchased through ATP, and is 3"thick, roughly 5" tall, and around 23" wide. End caps are 2.5 inches, but can be ordered differently, I'd recommend the 45 degree angle on each end if I could do it again...this would allow easier use of the side grilles. It was only $450 but doesn't come with pipes, couplers, mounting brackets or clamps, which adds up quickly if you don't have the ability to bend your own pipes.

what would you guess the extra piping and stuff costs?
because I sure as hell can't handle that on my own. I guess I'll get a price from a local shop that can make one custom and see what they want.
I Bell's price for an equivalnet unit is similarly priced.
