REPOST from B5--timing belt saga and question
On 99.5 1.8 tip with broken tb tensioner, I replaced timing belt and tensioner over the weekend. Car idles and revs fine but no power under acceleration. Going to test compression later today.
If I was off a difference of a tooth between cam/crank marks on wheels on the belt installation, would that cause this lack of power? And if so, can I simply recheck the marks on the belt and try to reposition it?

Bad cam/crank timing may = broken exhaust valves.
I have no experience with the 1.8T, but with a 3B or AAN, if you do not properly lock the crank, it turns into a very expensive weekend.
Check leakdown while you're in there, but give it a shot, it may just be off a degree. Are you consuming a lot of oil?
