Shift point ?

I was calculating the shift points for my car, but something doesn't make sense.

According to the gear ratios (2002 A4 1.8TQ):
1st 3.778
2nd 2.176
3rd 1.429
4th 1.091
5th 0.889
F 3.889

If the 1-2 is done at 6400 RPM, the tach should drop to 3686,[(2.176/3.788)*6400] however, the tach reads about ~4000-4200.

Try cruising at 4000 RPM in first...

and then shift to 2nd gear, maintaining your speed. Apply the calculation there and see what happens.

Maybe the tach is reading incorrectly in the upper RPMs?

Tried it...

and the tach drops to where it should. Also did some 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5 shifts at 4k and 5k. Everything looks good, just that 1-2 shift at 6400 looks to be off by a few hundred rpm.
