What is a downpipe?
Ok, probably a dumb question, but what exactly is the donwpipe, and why do some aftermarket exhaust systems include a downpipe and some don't?
Does it make sense to use an aftermarket exhaust system that doesn't include a downpipe?

Approx. 1.5' foot pipe that comes off the cat and goes "down" to the exhaust.
If you're going just for the sound then you're OK with the stock DP. If you're looking for performance gains, then you should really get an exhaust with an aftermarket DP.

depending on the car make/model the DP and Cat are oriented differently.
For example my brother's 337 and most cars afaik go turbo ->DP -> Cat -> rest of exhaust where the A4 goes turbo -> Cat -> DP -> exhaust.
