I have a 2001 s4 that is losing coolant. I have checked for leaks. I tested for hydrocarbons and pressurized the system.. Nothing. I lost about half gallon in a week..
So my question is this. Are the turbo's running coolant and oil like the saab's do. If this is the case do you think i have lost a seal in the turbo.. I have a few spare sets of turbos down at the shop so replacement is possible.. Any ideas.. The car is running strong still!!!

Check your oil.

Also does your car start perfectly still in the morning or does it have some roughness for first few seconds.

Not in the oil either. I did check that i just forgot to mention it.

I was losing coolant, turns out I had a couple hairline fractures on the bottom of the expansion tank that would only actually leak when the car was hot and running... so I never had a puddle under the car, but if I poked around in the engine bay, I would see the dried flakey mess of dried up coolant.

At the worst times, I could smell the coolant even... I would say you should drive around, beat the car up a bit and get it nice and hot, THEN look around under the hood... before it cools down, do it while it is running as well.

i will check the tank. there are a few small cracks on the top but no sign of any leakage.. i will run the car a bit today and check it later... thanks
