ECM Update/Recall
#22
I think it’s good.
Just had this done with my 10,000 mile service. I also believe in the placebo effect and always think my cars better after service but I drove 50 miles or so on highways, streets, shopping centers afterward and I feel like “more smooth” is a good assessment. In “auto” drive mode, shifts up and down weren’t felt as much and the controller seems to be making more natural decisions about power output. It’s still a slug off the line but once rolling it seems like it’s staying much closer to the sweet spot of torque and horsepower at all speeds without any jerkiness. I didn’t have any instances of feeling like it was choked out and needing to mash the gas like had been normal. Cant say much for the “start/stop” as I hate it but before turning it off it did feel like it was engaging smoother when restarting.

seems better
Brought my Q3 for service and this recall notice had just hit.. they upgraded the software and told me it should fix the start stop drive system malfunction failure which would lead my vehicle to stall.. its been about 3 weeks now and the car hasnt stalled anymore..however my clock keeps losing track of time.. so far so good.

I received my 96H5 recall letter a couple of months ago. I was not in any great hurry to get the update because the car was running as I would expect and I always disable the stop/start feature. After the update, my Q3 might be shifting a little more smoothly and having the stop/start feature fixed is reassuring, just in case I forget to turn the thing off. The fix took about an hour and when I booked the appointment, the service rep insisted that I would have a free courtesy car. Nice.
