Abrupt shift from 1st to 2nd gear on a cold engine?

TPI 2027286/9 (10/10/2016) there is a firmware update.
Also every 4 years or 60k km you need to change oil and filters.
Another TPI mentions a revised in-line filter and revised pipe lines for the transmission.

Do you have details of this TPI?
From what I was able to find, this is related to an S-tronic trans, which is not what my Q5 has. And it's to address an issue with abrupt downshifting from 2nd to 1st gear. That is not my issue.

Pete, all 3 of our cars (when completely cold) hold 1st gear for an inordinate amount of time. They typically rev close to 4,000 rpm in 1st gear before that upshift comes. They're doing it to get the cats up to temp as quick as possible, I suspect.
If it bugs someone, simply use the Tiptronic shifter to get to 2nd gear.

I understand the need to warm up the cats, but one single slightly delayed shift is not going to do it, IMO. Besides, why can't it do it more gracefully instead of slamming it into 2nd?

I failed to read your transmission type. Do you have the 8 speed tiptronic??
1-2 is the oil change. I had same issue but after oil and filter change it was sorted out. The fluid became like mud under the filter (but no metal on the magnets).
Somewhere I read that (for DSG DQ200 not sure if it applies to S-tronic or your transmission):
"Due to an engineering flaw, it seems that electrolysis can occur within the gearbox's control unit. This in turn results in juddering or even total loss of power." They had changed the fluid from synthetic to mineral. This is hypothetical and nothing tangible.
I have not read any TPIs for 8 speed tiptronic but my BMW has a 4 speed tiptronic without issues .
I am sure that if you subscribe 1 hour to ERWIN you will will find the relevant TPI, as an option if you wish. This is how I know all TPIs for my Q5.

2012 2.0T (8spd tip) has done this since new. I complained just after we bought ours and they said there was a TSB for rough shifting which they applied. Did not help the first 1-2 shift when cold but did have the effect of "smearing" the shifts from 1-2 and 2-3 when doing full throttle acceleration :-(. I thought of having them reverse the process but saw some other reports of people having their tranny's get worse instead of better with repeat attempts to reset. I've since discovered that when I'd like to do full throttle acceleration and have snappy shifts in the first couple of gears using M does the trick.

But I will mention the issue to the dealer when I go in for service next time.
