The fuel door locks when you lock the car.

very convenient ... tho was humorous watching the lady in her X3 at the gas station earlier this week fumble with her cap while trying to operate the pump ... there was no place for it? or more so i'm thinking she didn't know she has her own 'placement pinhole'.

Thanks for the replies...
sorry, wasn't clear - I meant locks as in no one else can push on it to open and dump sugar into it

Most of my previous cars, even my daughters little mazda 3, had an inside release to prevent vandalism....

As long as you have locked your car with your key fob, the fuel door will not open. You can actually here it unlock if you stand next to it and unlock the car.

Audi had this earlier on the cars - my B5 A4 did but then on the RS4 they added a button one had to press on the door - a real PITA.
So now they went back to something that is much more practical

The rear hatch needed to be opened with the fob or door button as delivered on mine. I was very happy to be able re-configure to work as the B5 trunk with the MMI.

Take the manual that you got with the car and read a bit
