Default Leak from Oil Drain Plug SOLVED !!!! Must Read INFO

Hi All,

So i wanted to take some time and share a stupidity , recently many Audi owners have been experience weird oil leaks originating from the Oil Drain Plug many believed that
they might have over torqued the plug and broken some of the threads on the oil pan bolt hole. Most likely this is not the case ,

If your leaking oil do the following, remove the drain plug and gasket and install the new audi oil pan drain plug gasket, the updated gasket has a circular groove which must go facing towards the oil pan when install said gasket on
the drain plus, this is the proper way to install it as per Audi Germany.

I've attached a picture, i was unlucky enough of installing the gasket the other way around where the groove was facing the bolt top and well eventually it would start to leak .

Problem Solved. Hope this helps people . Also when i say Gasket i actually mean washer lol i use these terms loosely Sorry .

Good info carfanaticA4 thanks.Fortunately my 14 Tdi has a steel pan and I must say it's nice and simple and robust.I've been re-using the Audi Alu washer for the last 5-6 changes.Guess I'll swap it out next time.Alu pans can be cranky and there's nothing worse than feeling the bolt "pop" in the threads even when you've been reasonable with the torque applied.

Mine was rethreaded and the concidence is that they were doing PCV and the firmware update for free (stage 1), at that time only to let me know that during this activity they observed that oil drain was dripping and they recommended rethreading. Yes I dont trust my Audi dealer since then. Paid 80 euros for rethreading, for no reason since oil dripping continued.

Few days after oil level dropped to 50%. Went to a local mechanic (I was on holidays) only to observe that wall of drain plug was cracked and I needed new oil sump. It was a nightmare.

yes the oil pan/sump is and was made of steel.
