Metal Trim discoloration
my 2017 SQ5 has some of the metal trim by the door and windshield that looks like its getting corrosion.
I took it in to the dealer yesterday and they said it seems to be fairly common and he would order new parts for warranty
said they cant pin point any rhyme or reason for it on some pieces and not on others as it is random, pass side of my car is bad, drivers is good.
its a 2017 with 20k miles

Yes they definitely have an issue to deal with.Good that their dealing with it for you.
If it was a Ford they'd tell you that "they all do that" and ask you to move on.

Glad you are able to get this replaced under warranty. I have the same issue on my Q5, but Audi said they wouldn’t fix it under warranty (when my car was still under warranty).

There was a discussion on the bright trim years ago.
"Arne in Germany who was a senior engineer of exterior and interior trim. He explained that depending on the model, the bright work trim is either aluminum or chrome, coated with a plastic material of some sort. One of the big causes of the oxidation is chemicals commonly used in car washes here. "
You are probably feeling the plastic nicks/scratches with your finger nail. Once you get a scratch in the plastic the aluminum or chrome oxidizes under the plastic coating when exposed to moisture/chemicals.

So, Bob, the damage is from Audi users going to uncertified and incompatible car washes? That voids the warranty then. Oh, wait, Audi hasn't released any specifications for car wash compliance yet, have they? (G)
Since most car washes do some type of generous rinse spray after the cleaning, I'd suspect more than the Audi guy was intentionally lying to deflect blame from defective materials. The same thing that never happens--except for those of us who already had headlight assemblies replaced because the plastic in those was also defective, crumbling from normal internal exposure to the original headlights.
Suppliers cheating on, or having bad qc on, all sorts of components has always been a problem, not just to Audi or the car industry.
