Hi there. I just wanted to say hi from Southeastern PA. I just bought my first Audi - a 25,000 mile CPO 2016 premium plus Q5. I do my own vehicle maintenance so am looking forward to buying some new tools! From the couple threads I've read, it seems like the VAGCOM (?) device is definitely going to be worth purchasing since I intend to keep this for the long term. Nothing else really to ask right now, I'll start exploring the stickies, and if anyone else has some good maintenance words of wisdom they'd like to pass along, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Yes, a scan tool is necessary, and the Ross-Tech is the most comprehensive. But there are others, with OBDeleven and Carista being the two most discussed alternatives.
