Q5 for a family? (What about Q7, X5, etc)
#31
We pretty seriously cross-shopped the Explorer with the Q5. I'll post my thoughts on it tomorrow. Mixed feelings, but it does have great tech. In the end, we went with the "driver's car", but there's no question we would have gotten a lot more for the money with the Ford.
- Great looking full-size SUV
- Drives well, but nowhere near the compact German SUVs
- Good Power
- Even in the highest trim (limited), at an MSRP of around $48k, the interior still feels cheap, including the quality of the leather. The rear seats aren't leather on the backs, etc.
- Steering wheel felt horrible in my hands. Audi feels much better, my M3 wheel feels 10x better than that.
- My Ford Touch LOOKED great, very high resolution LCD. Everything is touch based, however, and I'm worried about responsiveness / freezing. The salesman bragged about voice controls for things like air conditioning, then they worked very poorly (went down when he said up, etc.). Radio would tune to the wrong station when he said one, etc.
- A little firmer ride than I was expecting. I test drove both the 18 and 20 inch wheels. 18's obviously felt a little better.
- Panoramic moonroof was nice, but not as nice as the Q5's.
