I read somewhere on the forum that the 3.0T engine does not have this problem and it will be offered in the 2013 Q5 models. I'm considering trading mine in for a new one later this year if this is is the case. Does anyone know if this is true and if so why? Thanks
I haven't heard a single report of carbon issues in the 3.0T.

Same here, the 3.0T is in its 4th year of production in the US version of the A6, so far I havent heard of any carbon issue on any of the forum.

after reading this thread, I m so concern about my new order (2012 Q5 2.0T P+).
Did Audi fix this issue on 2012 model?
I like Audi, but I don't want this carbon problem make me switch to x3...

it sounds "bad" but you should consider the actual cost to you that this problem poses: from people's reports , say you want to keep your car for 6 years, you may clean it twice. Once covered under warranty. And from what i read it's a gradual issue, not something that stalls you in the middle of nowhere while driving 75mph on a highway... so not really different than being forced to replace brakes time to time. Does it warrant going for a "2nd best choice"?

Carbon is an issue with the 3.2, not the 2.0T.

I believe this issue doesn't affect the 2.0T. but some ppl reported their 2.0T starting to have this build up already.
I hope these are just normal. Of course every cars will have "normal" carbon build up eventually, but hope not worst as the 3.2.

Having it clean by the dealer under warranty is ok.
But losing about 40HP + bad MPG will not be fun.

The 2.0TFSI engine in the Q5 has only been around since 2009 so it might be a little early to know for sure.

BMW, like most DI engines, have similar carbon issues:

Default Should I re-think this?

I'm a "newbie" to the forum, so I'll start by saying hello to everyone. Well, I've been lurking around in the Q5 forum trying to get good feedback from people who actually own the vehicle as opposed to those who simply drive them once and write the reviews. I was just about ready to "pull the trigger" and commit to a new 2012 Daytona gray with light gray interior Prestige trim 3.2 when I stumbled across this thread and became hesitant on the purchase. I'm trying to get a sense of whether or not this is a deal breaker from other 3.2 owners. In addition to holding up on purchasing for this reason, I'm halfheartedly waiting to see if the 2013 information will break soon but I keep getting the same "I don't know when that will happen" response from my dealer. Any feedback is greatly appreciated since I've quickly come to realize the only people who you can truly count on to give "true" advice is those that actually own the vehicle and will speak honestly about it. Basically, if you had it to do over again, would you buy the 2.0T or the 3.2? I really wish the 2.0T came in the Prestige trim...that would resolve the problem instantly.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

At this point if you are not in a hurry, I would wait for the 3.0T. If you need a car now, I would buy the 2.0T.
