Thanks, I never realized this was how to perform the equivalent of one turn of a traditional key cylinder. So I don't know what the big deal is about the 12V power not working unless you are too lazy to press a button?

The reason for the comments from others and why I have always liked having the outlets powered even when the ignition is off is, that the car can be turned off and locked but a cell phone or other device can be left to charge for several hours. A cell phone or other small device left to charge is not going to run the car battery down, but leaving the ignition on probably will.

If you use the start/stop, when you pull over and step on the brake, the car should shut off. If you put it in park THEN take your foot off the brake, does it stay off? (I didn't check.)

I suppose they could change it so that the HL buttons worked until the driver's door is open, but for simplicity's sake I'm fine with it as is.
I agree, I do not want my car in the driveway to have an active HomeLink. A lot of home break-ins happen by accessing the garage via the car in the driveway and then into the house. Because a lot of people don't lock the door from the garage to the house, they just walk in. Not a good idea.

I have a 2015 Q5 (my wife drives) and a 2016 Golf Sportwagon. In the VWVortex forums there is a thread which addresses this. In the case of the VW all you need to do is move the appropriate fuse up one half of a space. By doing so I am now able to charge when the power is off. I haven't tried this with the Audi yet, but I suspect there is a similar setting. Seems like the kind of thing that they would want in Europe but not in the US.... and there is usually a simple solution..
