Default Will the 2011 Q5 use the 3.6 V6?

The 3.6L V6 has been used in the Q7 for 2 years now. Does anybody know when it will show up on the Q5?

Thanks!

It wouldn't make much sense, since the current 3.2 makes almost as much power as Q7's 3.6. Audi will be introducing the 2.0T to the Q5 lineup

makes sense to maximize just one v6 gas engine across the entire range. In any case the 3.6 is now rated between 290 hp & 300 hp with close to 290 of torque. That will make for a much stronger case once the new X3 arrives next year.

The 3.6 from Q7 is rated at 280, not 290, so only 10hp difference; not enough IMO to justify putting new engine in the model line. Also, if you haven't noticed, many manufacturers are downsizing engine displacements in their lineups, mostly to conform to the new CAFE regulations. If anything (I'm keeping my fingers crossed), Audi should put the 3.0 supercharged V6 on the Q5. That way, the fuel economy stays on par and it can easily compete with the new X3's turbo V6. My feeling is that they will do it for the '11 or '12 model year. Until then, it's no go for me on the Q5.

I couldn't agree with you more. No go for me either until Audi offers the 3.0 supercharged in the Q5.

Would it be too much to ask if they threw in an optional manual tranny too? Oh, my wife would get the current one and I'd have my order in so fast the dealer wouldn't know what hit them.

that the 2011 will have 300 hp from the same engine. The 3.0 supercharged would make an even better choice to differentiate the Q5 from other SUV in the VW family. That engine has a wide torque band but it was developed for a car and not an SUV. Regardless which engine Audi chooses to replace the 3.2 V6 it will make a much better choice.

I don't see how this makes sense. The current 3.2 V6 and 2.0T engines were also developed for cars and found their way into Q5, so why wouldn't the 3.0 Supercharged V6 engine be suitable for the job? The next X3 will have BMW's 3 liter turbo (among other engines), that was originally developed for the 3 series, and also found its way into their SUV models. The reason I'd prefer the 3.0 instead of the 3.6 in the Q5 is more power, better efficiency and tuning potential. But in this case I must agree that either one will be better than the current 3.2.

Quick Reply: Will the 2011 Q5 use the 3.6 V6?
