I will not be a happy camper
Refilling AdBlue on a Q7 IS kind of time consuming ( though I have never had to reset with VAG com) but it's not as much trouble as having to plug in a Tesla for hours every 300 miles!

Precisely...the 10 yr/120,000+ extended warranty may be insufficient to cover a pump engineered only for a fraction of the time that it will now have to pump away...

Adding Adblu every 1000-1200 miles would fall outside of the performance degradation clause describe in the court settlement. Any proposed "fix" that inhibits performance, I consider adding Adblu every 1000 miles or so is a reduction in performance, would not be approved and would force the buyback option. I doubt VW/Audi would submit something as ridiculous as this knowing most of the class members would strongly be against such an inconvenience.

I would agree. This would change my plan to replace our gen1 TDI with a post fix gen2.
I am a bit sceptcal of this report however given that other brands of diesels consume adblue at a similar rate to that which ours do presently.
https://www.autoevolution.com/news/y...it-104882.html
On the other hand, perhaps THEY are cheating too.
Trucks use more adblue per gallon of fuel consumed than cars. This article states 2 to 6 % of fuel used
https://www.rix.co.uk/blog/2016/7/ad...-need-to-know/
That would equate to 4 gallons + of adblue per 1000 miles in our vehicles. Hmmmm.

BIG difference between 300 and 1800-2000

With two kids in college 250 miles away and another nearly 500 miles away, would be stranded before even arriving at destinations if in Tesla....whereas no need to refuel or re-Adblue after repeated back-to-back trips to both destinations in TDI

Ok, I digress in jest, no disrespect....like others concerned about potential fix, really enjoy the TDI but will have to wait to learn how we will be ultimately affected

The DEF fluid usage information was from an internal 2007 PowerPoint presentation, which tells me it applies to the Gen 1 3.0 TDI only. With such high usage, it would make sense that VW/Audi aren't even going to attempt to fix it. Let's hope the Gen 2 repairs don't increase the usage too much. If it does, this already bitter VW owner will become a whole lot more so.

Just a guess, but I don't think you can extrapolate what your urea consumption might rise to based on a completely different weight, motor and drivetrain.

Perhaps the equitable solution to the need for frequent AdBlue refills, is to give every VW executive and engineer involved in the coverup a backpack filled with two-liter bottles of AdBlue, and have them wander the highways waving around those big arrows that so many merchants have out there "Free AdBlue HERE!" for the next five or ten years.
Heck, ten years on the road or ten years in jail...sounds equitable to me.
