2019 Q5 - radar detector fuse box tap

You should look in to a mirror tap (https://store.blendmount.com/mirrort...ong-p1524.aspx) I havv an Escort Max 360 connected to my rear view mirror
using this (https://store.blendmount.com/blendmo...ies-p4041.aspx). Local stereo shop did the install for $50. I'm sure I could have done it, but for $50, I couldn't beat it

I got the trim removal tool from amazon and I can get to the mirror socket. Which two colors should I tap to. It usually the red is hot and brown is ground but it doesn’t work. The other 3 colors are yellow, blue and purple.
Dont have the meter thing.

Yellow and brown are the 2019 SQ5 wires as well.
Additionally, I used the trim tool to pull from the part of the trim closest to the headliner, and when it came down enough, I pulled from the side with my fingers too. It came down easier than I thought it would (After reading all the posts), and went back up perfectly.

I did my dash cam installation today. The overhead console is actually two pieces but it's not necessary to separate them during the process, now that I've done it. These pictures will hopefully help others see where the mounting points are located and how it comes down. Note the rearward end of the main panel has to come out last and go back in first, due to the two black tabs. I used wire taps to connect the mirror tap wires to the yellow (positive) and brown (negative) wires for the garage door opener. I forgot to take pictures of that part of the operation but I had to gently remove some of the black, sticky wire wrap in order to have enough room to tap into the wires.

Did you get a chance to take any pictures? I took that shroud off the back of the rearview mirror too, but found there wasn't enough room in there for the 12v to 5v regulator needed for the dash cam, or to stow the rest of the USB cable or to hide the wire tap connectors. The good news is there is all sorts of room for all that above the console.

I did a MirrorTap install on my 2018 Q5 and once I was able to remove the shroud above the RVM and below the headliner, it was relatively straightforward.
I also used the yellow and brown wires.
I experimented with the fuses in the dash and all the ones I looked at were always on. To get more power for all the rest of my radar detectors, laser jammers, dashcams, auxiliary batteries, etc., that was a much more involved setup. Wiring into the RVM was much much easier.
