Why do you need to swap out wiper blades on a brand new 2018 Q5?

I have never had factory installed wipers that were not so cheap that they ruined the glass, sometimes it blurred the windshield so badly that I could not drive in the rain. So I always buy a name brand blade as soon as I can..

OK, I haven't seen any issues with the factory blades that came with my 2017 Q5. Now I'm curious if others have had issues with the OEM wiper blades.

Thanks. I've also never had issues with wipers blades that have come with the vehicles I've purchased. In most cases the OEM blades seem to better and last longer than after market blades.

I HATE blades like Rain-X Latitudes, I always feel like the outside edges never make full contact towards the resting position on the passenger side and it looks bad

I agree, OEM blades always seem to outlast aftermarket on the many new cars I've purchased. Most last 3 years if you don't run them on an iced windshield. But I've never tried Bosch blades. They do get a greasy road film at times that I assume comes from asphalt and rainy days. Easy to clean off....

With my past VWs, I always ended up with micro-scratches at about 10,000 miles where the right blade reverses direction, which of course is in the driver's line of sight. When I bought my Q5, it had 67000 miles and didn't have noticeable scratches. I believe the VW windshields are made of a softer glass. I now have 77000 miles, and am seeing the scratches a little more, but still nothing like my VWs had at 20,000 miles. And I always used OEM blades, mainly because at the time no one sold aftermarket blades for the frameless blades VW used.
