second key?

This is an interesting topic, unlike any other keys I've made myself or had made (Lexus/Toyota, Honda, older BMW's, and Ford). Audi for their recent cars (B9+) is either the only one or one of the very few that needs to authenticate a key programing with servers in Germany with checks on the VIN. Not sure how this will open up to the public. But it was cool watching the tech do it lol

My 2005 VW Passat needed this programming for a new key, is a pain but makes it harder for someone to duplicate a key and steal your car

I've had a second key on order for weeks now (main key was stolen from the gym). I was just at the dealer yesterday for 30K service and they said there is still no ETA on when I'll get a new key.

I'm the only driver of the Q5 so the key fob I had been using for the last two years is what was stolen along with all the other keys on my keyring. Caught on video and everything. Never found the *******. Anyway my wife was able to find the second key and bring it to me so I could drive the car home. So I'm still using my spare key but if I somehow lose THAT key, I'm in deep trouble.

Sorry to hear they didn’t catch the d-bag, and glad to hear you had a second key. I’ve owned cars whose spare keys only came out of the drawer to pass along to the next owner. So when my new e-tron was delivered with only one key, it didn’t matter…. Gimme gimme gimme the new car now! Now though, I’m really scared that one day I’m going to leave the fob in a pants pocket and it’s going to cycle through the washing machine. So when I read your reply, my fear got worse…. Audi isn’t prioritizing key replacements even if the original is stolen?!?!? But that’s not the case since you had a 2nd key available. Thanks for your reply, and apologies if I introduced a new anxiety.

I have been out shopping for a new car. I have been to six different brands of car's and I asked them about key fobs, and they all said that the new cars come with two and it has not been an issue. So maybe it is just an Audi thing?

All my Q3's have arrived with 2 keys so far. My last 2 Q5's, which arrived last week, had 2 keys (prior to that, there was 1). I am still telling people, when they order, or pick one from my incoming inventory, regardless of the car, to expect one key. If it turns out there are 2, even better. If only one, they were informed.
