Default Volume control stopped working

The volume control on the center counsel stopped working today. Has anyone else experienced this? Not sure if it's firmware or hardware related, but turning off the car and restarting did not help.

Have you tried a full reset of the MMI system (hold the Nav and Radio toggle buttons up and push the center ****)? I had an issue where my music quit playing altogether and the screen went blank and a reset brought things back to normal

1) Is the volume control on the steering wheel still working?
2) When you push down on the volume control, is the mute symbol showing on the MMI screen or the dash screen if it is set to the radio function?

So it appears to be firmware / software. It's now working again, and I did nothing other than turn off the car, let it sit for a bit, and then restart it. The entire control, including the joystick and mute, were disabled but the steering wheel controls still worked.

This happens to me sometimes after a Sirius update. Rebooting MMI resolves it.

Unfortunately this is what we have to live with now that computers run our vehicles.
Glad to hear it's resolved and it wasn't anything major.

Everything on the car runs on the CAN bus that links the modules. Sometimes crap happens which causes a module to lose sync. If you turn off the car, lock it, wait 5 minutes it goes into full sleep mode/shutdown which tends to reset issues like you found.

I wish that you would repeat the above every month or so. Of course, the result would be the shrinking of the # of threads by 10 or 20%. Lots and lots of us that only exist as users in today's electronic culture don't realize that sometimes there are, in fact, simple solutions to the problems. We tear our hair and rend our garments rather than take a deep breath and do the simple thing.
Jes thinkin.........

Thanks, Wires!

I have both an 18 sq5 and 18 q7 and it’s happened on the 5 once and on the 7 about 10 times (call it once a month). Reset fixes it. Volume control on the steering wheel still works

Happens to me too about once a month. It works again after starting the car again.
