Default 2014 Q7 Tdi OE hitch install, but dealer coding not working

Really could use some help, need to trailer the track car on Friday and expected a plug n play experience at the dealer for the code work after I installed the hitch, module and harness on my 2014 Q7 TDI.

Maybe simple mistake on their part, but nothing registers when connected and trailer brakes are on when standing still.

Any ideas, it did this before the dealer supposedly did the codes, so I’m thinking they just didn’t do it right. There is no recognition by the mmi system that a trailer is connected when it is, so I’m go’n with the stealership’s to blame. $217 to code btw, even called them out on it being a 20min job max, but when in a pinch for time what can ya do..

thanks in advance for any insight!

Look online for VAG-COM/VCDS Locators, lots of guys like my self make em available for free to anyone who finds us and just asks nicely.

Thanks dreadlocks, yeah getting the VCDS would have been the smarter play for sure. I
I was hoping to eliminate chance of error as I have a trip this Friday to Sonoma raceway and planned to the trailer my spec miata there.

Do you know if there was an activation code sent with the hitch package? Do you think the dealer is struggling without the activation code?
I read someone had thrown theirs away, and believe I did the same, so how SOL would I be if that's the case?
I've emailed the supplier for the hitch to see if they have record of the activation code if indeed one was included.
At the dealer now, trying to make it right, fingers crossed.

Thanks a mil!
Deacon

activation code? no didnt use anything like that.. I pluged the module in, added the module to the installed gateway list and then recoded some other modules to support towing config (backup camera/blindspot monitoring/etc)

no idea what dealer tools require tho, obviously I didnt use them

Went back to the dealer, seems they use an ottis system that communicates with Audi HQ in Germany and packages up module codes to automate the process.
After hours of researching they reverted to the manual approach. Heading to pick up the car now, fingers crossed. Thanks for the help!
