Anybody else's Q take forever to warm up if it's been sitting out overnight?
Sorry if this was already covered ... didn't find anything in a search.
And I don't just mean heat out of the vents, but the actual operating coolant temp. We've got a Q7 4.2 and it commonly takes about 20min for the temp guage to reach halfway. Garage is home to construction materials right now, so the car is out in about 30F overnight.
I'm getting heat out of the vents about the time I make it to work.
Probably one more thing for the dealer to look into.

Not just you, I have the same problem. My Q gets warm just as I'm dropping off the kids at school.
Boxes of Christmas decorations are taking up my side of the garage right now, but I think I'll be doing some organizing soon because it is COLD in the mornings!

Since my dad's Q7 is always outside, I have noticed that the Q7 does take sometime to warm, but the seat heaters really do help alot. It averages about 10 minutes before it completely heats up. Whenever, I'm driving it, I put it in Sport, and I've noticed that it heats the engine up, much quickly. Our old OUtback use to do this. If the engine is cold, it use to shift at a much higher RPM, so that it could quickly warm up.

I monitored my heat this morning and.........
Q was out overnight with temperature of 22F.
Warm air was blowing when temp gauge was up 1/8 of scale (note: 1/2 of scale is normal temp). This occurred after driving 3 miles/6 minutes.
At 5 miles/8 minutes temp was at 1/4 mark and warmer air was blowing.
At 8 miles/12 minutes temp was at normal range.
I believe that if I left the heat off during this time the warm up period would be reduced significantly. I'll try tomorrow morning.

Oddly, I noted that this week.. I normally have my Q7 4.2 in the Garage and the temp in Atlanta aren't all that cold. I was traveling and the Q was out side that night in 30 degree weather. I noted it took 20 mins for the operating temp to get to the point where the heat would elevate to the high fan. I have my 15K appt tommorrow at the dealer and see if there is any "fix".

Surely it's all relative?
The cabin heat is a by-product of the coolant temperature. Depending upon how you drive, will determine how fast the cabin gets heat. In this respect, driving in 'S' may be preferable to 'D' as it holds the revs higher and will generate more heat to be absorbed by the coolant.
Maybe I'll get the VAG-COM out and graph coolant temperature over time one morning.
John.
