Reading this thread makes me very happy I decided to pay my mechanic $300 for labor to replace pads, rotors, and sensors.

A penny saved is a penny earned...

It's not too bad as long as the pad retaining bolt is not rusted in there too bad and you are able to get your impact wrench in behind the rotors to remove the 16mm 12-point bolts. My impact wrench was actually having a hard time so I and I had to heat up the bolts with a pocket torch.

I did my rear rotor and pads with new sensors for $250 after needing to purchase a 12-point socket set in about 1.5 hours.

And next time around it will be that much easier...

As shown in the Touareg DIY, you need to move a single line out of the way to gain better access. You should be able to fit any moderate sized impact wrench in there. The top was a breeze... the bottom was at a slight angle but did the job nonetheless.
